My son was drawn for the tyhp pronghorn hunt in the panhandle next month. I have never been pronghorn hunting. What caliber would be best he has a 270 and 308. What do we need to be prepared for? I just need some general info that would be helpful. Thanks tbh

I grew up here in Wyoming shooting a 270 as a kid, taking a lot of antelope over the years. While I don't use a 270 any more, that is a fine caliber for speed goats. Be prepared to shoot comfortably out to 300 yards and the 270 will easily do that. I would recommend a 130 grain bullet. Antelope are not tough in that you need a heavy bullet for them. In fact, up here they just passed a law this year where you can use a 22 caliber centerfire on them as long as it is minimum 60 gr bullet.
Good glass is really important as you will be looking at a lot of goats from a long way away and you need to decide if one you are looking at is worth going after. It is hard to do that without good glass at 1000+ yards with the heat waves dancing.
It is an easy hunt physically and does not require that you be in mountain shape as I call it.
Hunting antelope is also a great hunt for kids because they will see a lot of game and not be physically exhausted from going up and down mountains when it comes time to pull the trigger.
Have a great time, speed goats are a blast to hunt.
