Gander mountain in San Antonio !!!!

    This^

Has anyone been there yet and is it worth it driving to it? I do live 5 minutes from cabelas but this is lighting a fire in my rear...

We went there this evening, as a matter of fact. Although there is an abundance of firearms, there is not really much worth going there for. They did have quite a bit of ammo...don't even ask, no .22lr!

The archery section is limited and I can honestly say, you can find better bargains at Academy. It is worth checking out if your in the area but I feel you would be disappointed if you drove all the way from Buda to check it out.

    Just my two cents worth!

It's hard to chose driving 5 minutes and 50 minutes!

I had real high expectations. I was pretty disappointed myself. With Bass Pro Shops here and Cabela's just up the road, we were actually hoping for more.

Like I said, if your in the area, check it out and maybe grab some skewers at Tiago's afterwards.

If you do make it out, let me know what you think of the Skewers...lol!

All we have is gander and academy at the moment in lubbock. I can't fathom why anyone would shop at gander if they had bps and cabelas in close proximity.....gander sucks the fat one always and everywhere I've been.

But hey, get excited San Antone. Lol

Went by there yesterday. Prices were on the high side. Had a good bit of ammo, even had 22lr in stock. Super slow at the gun counter, but the did have some guns that were not in stock anywhere else so that was cool. As far as guns, they had a ton more stock than BPS had yesterday and a pile of people in line to purchase.

I walked in the door on opening day last week and the first thing I saw was a display full of voodoo mojo doves for $15 more than what Academy was selling them for. Everything in there was high but they had an abundance of ammo...some of which I was in desperate need of...

I spent about 30-45 minutes in there last weekend. Walked out empty handed. I just don't see them making it with those prices and that location. It's not well seen from 410 or 151, so you have to know it's back in that shopping center. The prices were ridiculous on most everything I looked at.

Tons of .22 in stock - But is was all bird shot/rat shot or WMR. I saw .22 and thought, "Oh, cool... .22 in stock". Then I looked more closely - no LR at all. Plenty of bird shot/rat shot though. Odd. All of the ammo was overpriced by quite a bit compared to other places.

I didn't look at the firearms, but there was quite a bit on the shelves, and quite a few customers. Don't know how their prices were on firearms, because I'm not in the market right now so I didn't look.

Camping stuff wasn't too severely overpriced, but I had just left Academy, and they were cheaper for everything on my want list.

Their employees (I talked to 3 of them in camping) were everywhere, but not a single one of them knew where anything I wanted was, or if they had it. They're new, so I'll give them a pass for now. At least they were friendly and on the floor trying to help people.

If I had a Cabelas close by, I'd never shop at Gander. Cabelas beats them by a long shot.

                            All the best,
                            Glenn

They had the ammo (.257 Roberts 117) I needed in stock, which no one else except Nagels had in stock, but no snake boots in my size. I wouldn't make a special trip for it, but it's down the road from my workplace. Check out what you need online and call before you go.
