Plans for securing a trail camera? (dang thieves!)

Dang camera thieves got us again. I've been hunting a place that belongs to a couple friends of mine and for the second time in 6 months somebody stole our trail cameras. The gates are still locked - they are just crossing the fence and then wander around taking stuff. (So far they have not broken into the house or the barn but I have a feeling that is coming.) After the first time we hid some cameras hoping to catch a pic of them but no luck. One problem with this area is that it's mostly weekend places ranging in size from a 1/4 section to a section, and the thieves know it is very rare for someone to be around during the week. Anyway, back to the cameras - who has a DIY for a camera lockbox? I realize a determined thief with bolt cutters could still steal them but I'm thinking it will deter the random strolling meth head.

Probably spend as much making one as it costs to buy one of the different kinds available..
I used a lag bolt - washer - rear of camera case - tree method to mount them directly to a tree.. in East Texas.. not very versatile..but they never got stolen..
the batteries and cards on the other hand...
a lock box like the cudde's have available for them would be better..

I've had a few stolen but always thought they would just break the cameras if I locked them up. If the cam gets there photo the're not going to leave it be. Best case they take the cards.

I hate a thief sorry for your troubles!

Bolt a metal box to the tree with lag bolts and a portable drill. Put the camera inside. Epoxy single edge razor blades to the top of the box with the cutting surfaces facing the tree. Write on the box, "Warning. You assume all risk for theft". Wipe all fingerprints off box, camera and SD card. Wipe all fingerprints and identifying markings off everything.

If you're mean, wipe animal excrement on the blades.

I think there are some Google stuff on making them out of small, electrical, metalboxes and you lag screw them to a tree.

That's just mean without the animal dookie, but I like the way you think.

Put them up high facing downward. If they are high enough the punks won't want to climb all the way up there, that is if they even see them.

Shame you have to do this. I wouldn't try so much to bolt it down but to hide it really well.

do you have an old one that you can sacrifice and have another well hidden camera on it or a trail to it.

Which cameras you using? There are some online sites that sell them cheaper than you could probably make them. Lotta folks just use Python locking cables if camera will accept them.

I have a couple of old 35mm cameras you could have for decoys.

Think this guy also sells lockboxes for several different cams.

How about a cell phone trail camera that sends you pics?
