    Food plot

Wanting to put a small plot out here by my house. Get a glimpse every now and then of a pretty good buck, but it's very hit and miss. Problem is I live in a very sandy area. Wondering if there's much that I can get to grow out here? Any recommendations? And it'll have to be pretty small since I don't have any equipment out here. Like a throw and grow kinda deal. Can get plenty of water on it at least.

Oats for sure.. never seen clover take off in fall. My experience, though limited, is that clover wont get going good till spring when fall planted.

Leftridge is right. You won't get a ton of growth out of the clover this fall. You will get some though. The oats/rye will be the main draw....but the beauty of clover is that it will last 4-5 years without having to replant and will provide free nitrogen if you inoculate it so your grains will grow well. Especially if you can water and mow it in the spring. You may be able to keep the clover going all year long if you can water it.

I would plant a good white clover like durana or ladino. A medium red clover will work well too.

Order mine from Welters because they sell by the pound. Fast shipping. I plant crimson every fall with cereal rye and it really takes off in the spring.

Got home in time to run out before the rain and throw some oats out and rake them in pretty good. Hoping we get plenty of rain tonight and see how these do. Planted 5 small spots around the tank that are all about 10 yds x 10 yds.

Was able to edit a picture real quick. Red dots are the small plots, green is where I was thinking of putting a tripod in an oak and the orange is where the feeder is at. The tank has been dry for a few months now and there is a creek bottom that goes through there with big oaks.

Looks good. If you have many deer there they might eat those pretty quick. Once its up some some fertilizer on it before it rains
