Now that's what I like to see. That fella won't be biting anyone any time soon.

Looking through a pile of old tripods, 12'x20'x6'high, I was hoping to salvage a boat seat for a ground blind. I walked around it three times looking for rattlesnakes just to be safe. Reached into the the pile to pull one out and lit this guy up. My hand was less than two feet from him when he sounded a warning. He was resting 3' off the ground up in the pile on a tan colored tripod and I didn't see him.

He dropped down under the plywood while I tried to snare him. Unbelievable how well his pattern blended in with the diamond shaped mesh of the tripod.

Pulled the fangs before I cut his head off.

Why do you pull the fangs out for?
Seems like its safer to cut off the head and flick off into a cactus or bury it, unless you use the fangs for something?

Did you fry it up? I've had it and was not impressed.

Sir, Standard safety procedure, Sir.... I always remove the fangs first with the back of my pocket knife blade. I've had them slip free while cutting their heads off.

Keith, If they're big enough to eat or around camp they do not get a pass. But on the Refuge they do get a pass because they're protected.

Wilbur, Never tried to fry one up. I grill them medium heat, baste with a little vinegar, butter, BBQ sauce, salt and pepper.

I understand that the only one that I dont give a pass are the ones in the yard .
