Ive done both, and to be honest I don't think it matters. Ive brushed in and not brushed in and had same results.
We had a mid 170" buck suddenly disappear one season bout mid November, he was a regular at two blinds where rifle hunters had seen him year after year. I had an idea where he might have moved to so I went in about 10 am set up pop up, did not brush in, came back that evening hit the tail gate feeder at 15 yards in front of pop up went parked walked into blind and 30 minutes later he showed up, filmed him at 15 yards, set up my camera on him then flung an arrow at him and he ducked the arrow
Now a days I just setem up no brush.

Set mine up in Mountain Home in the center of two oaks and a cedar. Took rocks and weighted the bottom skirt down all the way around the blind. Never brushed it in. Hunted the rest of the season and literally had bucks walk by 6-8 feet away. Used scent killer as well.

No cutting, no sweating, no snakes, no work!!!
Not in East Texas. Took months for our deer to get used to it.

However, I'm convinced if you build octagon, round or hexagon shaped the deer don't mind it. At all. Commercial pop ups on my dirt requires brushing in and a few weeks prior to the hunt.

Larger more comfortable blinds I've built the deer visit same day

Something else I learned since my post#4 back in 2013.....make sure your arrow does not hit the blind.

                    Scorpions like them too.
