I just watched a hunting show and the hunter took an elephant and proceeded to cut the end of its tail off. he cut it at about the level where it was 1 1/2 inches in diameter.I know a few guys on here have taken elephant and I bet they can tell me why. It was t the whole tail but the end portion of it.

From my understanding, it's a longstanding tradition that the tail provides ownership. When an elephant is killed in the bush, he who has the tail owns the elephant and no one but that hunting party has first rights to start hacking it up for meat...or something like that! -

They take the hairs at the end of the tail and make a bracelet out of it, google it and you'll see...Comment

it is a trophy! Tribal leaders/chiefs would have them as a sign of power & leadership. No different (well a lot different) than us collecting trophies for the wall. LOL!!!Comment

It is proof of ownership, started during the commercial ele hunting days. You shoot one cut off the tail and keep hunting the other ele's and come back later to get your ivory
