Heads up on city dove hunting if this is true.

I just talked to the guy that handles lots of land in Frisco, The Colony and Lewisville. The city's have sent him letters saying no hunting within the city limits.

There's always been no hunting (read: discharging a firearm) in the city limits....just about any city limits. Sometimes it doesn't get enforced, but it's a law just about everywhere.

So Texas law allows hunting in city limits under certain regulations...how are the cities saying no?

Guess he needs to send a letter back to them stating the state law!

From what he was told the state left it up to the city's. if the city's allow it no problem. Just passing along info.

This is from TPWD's "Restricted Areas in Counties" page

•hunt anywhere that hunting has been prohibited by county or city ordinance
Might want to get a clarification before Sunday.

Sounds like one of those scare tactic letters that really don't mean anything.

The question here is can county or city ordinance trump state law. Personally, I don't want to find out, gonna cost a bunch in lawyer fees to get the final verdict

County and City Ordinances can be MORE restrictive than state law but not LESS restrictive. As stated earlier many cities have firearms discharges as illegal per ordinance.
