Off the beaten path in LA (the state, not the city)

My wife and I are heading out on a road trip for our 11th anniversary this afternoon to southern Louisiana. Most likely gonna spend the first night in Lafayette, and end up at some point in Nawlin's. If you had 4 days or so and money was an inhibiting factor, what would you recommend checking out?

I sincerely hope he chimes in, then ;-) He certainly seems like an interesting guy to meet, and I'd get to save on shipping for some Ragin' Blaze.

check out the plantation houses down the mississippi.

I 2nd the comment about Prejean's restaurant. haven't been there in over 10 years but before that time, my travels took me by that place almost every week for several months. good eats for sure.

                  I'll 3rd the Prejean's comment!

The first time I went to Prejean's was probably '95. I always said I'd make that 4 hour drive just to eat there, but haven't done that. Luckily, fishing tournaments and other trips have had me passing through there several times over the years. The last time I was there was back in October of '11. It is some good food!!!

Take Hwy 90 south from Lafayette to NOLA. Check out the Tabasco Plantation on Avery Island and Rip Van Winkle Gardens on Jefferson Island.
Both excellent venues to check out and easy on the pocket book

I think Blake said on another thread he was heading to the Gulf Coast for the holiday weekend in Miss or Alabama can't remember. Leaving out this morning is what I think I remember.
