metric tire size????

I have 315/75 r16s
I would like to go one size smaller. I figured it would have been 305/75r16 but no that tire size doesnt appear to exist. I am happy with the width of the tire just want something about not quite as tall.
What size do I want?

305/70/16
or
285 /75/16 just as tall (some 1/4" taller) as the 305 but not quite as wide as the 305

x2 a 315/75 is a 35x12.5 tire a 305/70 is a 33x12.5. I'd go with the 305 over the 285.

305 and 285 are the width of the tread pattern.
70 and 75 are % of the above width, which are the height of the sidewall.

That whole tire size mamba jamba gives me a head ache. Every time i thought i had it figured out....well i didnt. LOL. Good luck, im sure there are plenty on here that have the tire info ya need.

Did that and the several I looked at still had me making guesses
