How many hrs does it call for a pitman arm change on a 2008 dodge ram 2500? The place I left it at mat be setting me up for a big repair bill. They mentioned when I stopped by that it may require taking apart a good bit of the steering/front end to install.

Takes all of 30 minutes on a Jeep. I have had to literally cut a few off, though.... Oh how the city life has corrupted me. Ain't got no windmills in the cites

The shop I have it at wanted to charge me an hrs labor to install the hubs. I walked over to my truck and was like, you took them off to change the ball joints, why would you charge me? I walked out there picked up the old ones, and put down the new ones in their place! I then told him now you don't have to charge meLast edited by Black Ice; 08-27-2013, 05:32 PM.

Get the tools from Autozone/Orielly. Buy a service manual from the same place, Youtube. The shops will put a 30-50% markup on the same parts, most with a lesser warranty than the stores, plus add in $80-$100 labor per hour. That per hour is also when they can get to it, between the higher margin "clean the injectors", recycle the coolant jobs.
My estimates are for a very recent job when I thought I'd save some time, $2600 later I feel like a fool.

I'm lazy so I just cut my last pitman arm off with a $9 Harbor freight cut-off tool. That was after I soaked the thing in PB Blaster for two days and used the Autozone tool and an Ingersall impact wrench on it.
Make sure your front wheels are dead straight before you start working. Mark the position of the center line of the old pitman arm on a good index point so you can install the new one in the exact same position. Be careful, then cut it off. On installation of the new part, center your steering wheel position and attach the new pitman arm on the steering linkage splines. Lift the steering linkage up so it aligns on the steering box output splines. Impact wrench the new pitman arm on to the steering box with the nut.
Send me a PM if you have questions.
