    Lesson Learned- 24 Care Clinics

Got real sick a couple months ago and after missing 3 days of work I new I needed to go get some antibiotics or penacillin or something to start getting better quickly. I was to sick to drive across town to my doctor and it wouldn't have been very safe me driving in that condition. I also didn't want to go to an emergency room at hospital becouse I was not in a serious emergency and didn't want to hold other people up. Walked into one of those new 24hr places that are popping up on every corner and they said they treat everything from a simple cough to a gunshot wound. Anyways they gave me an antibiotic shot and I was outta there. Just got my bill in the mail yesterday...$3,000! My insurance covered a lot of it...so I owe $700. OUCH...for an in and out shot!!
p.s. I am not complaining....I just was unaware.

    No way I'd pay that.

Yikes! Wish we could go back to when doctors made house calls and would sometimes barter for their fee.
Shameful what it costs for medical treatment!
I wouldn't pay it either, it's not a reasonable fee. Contest it. (When you feel better.)

The E care by us is nuts too.
I was pretty sick and they did a strep culture and ended up being positive
          Wrote a couple prescriptions
          My portion $1000

I always ask how they bill....like an er visit or dr. visit. You can ask to pay a reduce price...especially if you pay fast. My wife can typically get them to reduce the amount by 20% without trying to hard...in some cases up to 40-50% of our portion. Good Luck at least you feel better.

^^^ exactly - they are more coming to aid in emergency situations however, their costs are much higher than a Hospital ER. Got to way the odds of $150 co-pay at the hospital or a quicker response and treatment, but extreme high payment at one of those offices.

I know what my copay is for those places and its cheaper than ER but not anywhere close to what my family doc copay is. I will use them as a last ditch effort before going to ER

There are both 24HR urgent care clinics and 24HR emergency care clinics.

That one word can save you alot of money. Urgent Care clinics are usually much cheaper then the Emergency Care clinics.

My neighbor's kid had a severe cut on his lip and went to a Emergency clinic first.....they told them what it would be and went to a Urgent Care clinic right down from here. They said they saved close to a Grand$.

Yup, I would contest that as over and above reasonable costs. They might not throw it out but they should reduce the 700 down considerably.

That's why those clinics are there is due to the fact that they do not have a set price with the insurance companies..
