Daisetta sinkhole!

Anybody see the national TV coverage of the giant sinkhole in Daisetta? It's 2 football fields long and 200 ft. deep. Heads up - FM770 from Hwy 90 to Batson is closed to thru traffic. Incredible!

My brother-in-law's dad had a place out there I have hunted before. I wonder if it is still there.

What a hole. I get a laugh just watching them interview the people living there. Reminds of Chew and Critter.

It's located a block from Hull-Daisetta High School and a block off the hiway. I do believe they sucked too much oil out of the ground there!

I heard about it on the way home from La yesterday and was thinking of all the toothless, tattooed, wife beater wearing people they could find to interview in that area..... I thought they had to pump water into the ground to offset the space added when the oil was removed? and if its a water hole......?

Just talked to my uncle who lives in Daisetta. He is NOT one of the "toothless, tattooed, wife beater wearing people," btw. The sinkhole is on the northwest edge of town. 770 is only closed from Daisetta going north, it's still open from 90 to Daisetta. It slowed down during the night. The common theory is that a saltwater dome collapsed. And yes, they have sucked a lot of oil out around Daisetta, but they've put a lot of saltwater back in.
