flux core wire without shielding gas

Anyone found one that runs clean enough for certified welding without shielding gas? We have tried several from our suppliers over the years and never found one that would consistently weld right...kept getting random pinholes...

You will have to run a 90/10 gas if you expect to pass Xray or UT.

I would think that it would be possible to do quality welds with FCAW if the weldor is certified for that process. The welds them selves are not certified but inspected, the weldor is certified. FCAW is used every day for quality welds on every thing from sheet metal to heavy construction.

It's been over 25 yrs since I used flux core without the gas, so I couldn't tell ya what the wire was. I do know, flux core with gas ran much better for me than without.
I know what ya mean about the pinholes. It may mean just a fine tune on heat or wire speed or even the cleanness of the parts.
Maybe a call to a rep might help.

meh, I've got good certified MIG procedures for both carbon and stainless using cover gas, I was just wondering if someone had found a magic FC wire that would run consistently without gas.

Check with Hogman7290, he sells welding supplies. Maybe he can help you out.

Gotcha!...Thats why I said NO! Flux core is for junk iron welding....Im sure someone will argue that.

There are several weld procedures for FC...but it still a trashy weld...you could try to run a small amount of tri-gas....but I'm thinking thats what you are trying to get away from....gases are high dolla!

No help here, never tried to certify with NR-211 flux core. Certified with E71T1 running 80/20 gas in 6G postion for heavy wall pipe (one of the hardest cert's I carried). Good luck.

Why run flux core if you are using gas?
