The vacuum will work,Not as good as a real one.Let it run for quite a while to get as much moisture out as you can. Then close it off and see if it holds.

Refugio i let it go for 20 minutes and got it to 26 inches of vacuum. My compressor starts not being able to keep up at that point. I called autozone and they have a pump im going to rent. Im letting it hold the vacuum it has for now to see if i have leaks. What is thebmin vacuum i need?

Had an '04 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins before this '12. AC laid down at about 180K. Got 2 bids from a Dodge house and a private shop ranging from $1800-2200. Me and a buddy replaced the whole system for $647 in about an hour and a half, and $160 of that was a real shop replacing auxillary fan and charging the whole thing with freon.

            Shysters!

Exactly bids 1800, cost me 517. Took me most of the day, but i had to rebend tubing on "drop in condener" and mounting hole on compressor was jacked up and i had to rethread it using a bolt. Shes holding vacuum, but im going to rent an electric pump before church tonight.

I had the same problem with my compressor. As long as it holds, I would think you would be good to go. I am not an A/C mechanic, far from it, but I have done several after sleeping in a Holiday Inn express. If you go to autozone you may want to borrow their gauges too. I did have trouble with my Harbor freight gauges.

You should be pulling about 28 lbs of vac on the system. If you are converting from r-12 to r-134 I hope you flushed the system out. You might want to put some UV dye in with your pag oil just in case you spring a leak later on. Good luck with the A/C

Never done cars but do residential ac every day. A good 2 stage vacuum will get to around 30" and then you measure in microns.
If you really want a good clean vacuum, pull what you think is a good vacuum, break the vacuum with nitrogen (bring system back to 0psi by adding nitrogen) and then pull another deep vacuum.

Nice truck, that's when GM actually made a great product. Those trucks are hard to beat.

i got to 28 for a few minutes. Just put the brand new rental pump on and highest i got was 24. Converted to r134a but removed every piece of the old system. I even installed a parallel flow condenser for r134. Hopefully i get some cool air flowing. Thanks

Love the truck. Haven't done A/C work in sometime , had my house A/C act up about month ago. My FIL gave me a hand. I had to call the big man for help. He quoted me over the phone 850.00. 500 of that was just the freon from what he said. Well couple hours on a nice Sat. fixed my stuff for 13.00. FIL had freon so no charge there. Made think about going back to school for HVAC work. I sure heck could cut his rate. Make sure ya pull a good vac on the system then enjoy the AC.

Great looking truck. I used to drool on those regularly when I was on college. That is an awesome body style.
