I posted it last yr- been little over a year

Everyone said heart attack but they said no - just a bad reaction

CPR was done by son and paramedics. Happened here in Waller co. Off 1488. He was weed eating next door at his in laws who were in Africa and as soon as he got bit he called his son over and told him he was bit call 911 and died instantly -
    Crazy I know -

He was early 40s and in great shape. Left behind a beautiful wife and two children

In 17 years as a paramedic I've seen quite a few envenomations. Some dry bites, some full on severe. My advice is take every precaution you can to NOT get bit. The only horror story I'll tell ya is this, the average ER visit alone from a moderate to severe envenomation is in the neighborhood of $30,000-$50,000. It can easily be double that if an ICU or rehab stay is involved. Cheaper to not get bit.
Can't be that much now with Obamacare can it???

Well it happened to me earlier this year. Bite didnt hurt at all, like an ant bite. I had to run a mile back to truck and go to ER. Spent 24 hours in ICU with no anti-venom. 8-10 hours after the bite was VERY painful. While laying down it was fine, going vertical was stupid painful.

I couldn't walk for 3 weeks and missed a total of 6 weeks of work.

        Don't recommend it!

Figure it's like a bee sting- I can get stung several times and barely swell up at sting area. Some people get hit once as better have epi pen
Everyone reacts differently and I don't want to know mine to a snake

Did they decide not to give it to you for some reason or did they not have any?

                Glad you recovered okay.

                    Snake Bite

Doctor wanted to give anti-venom and keep me another night in hospital, but the nurses talked him out of it. He asked me and I declined.

These nurses were as good as they come and were the been there, done that type. I had no problem trusting them.

I think he had never done it and just wanted to see what would happen. Nurses said they don't like to give it due to the side effects and/or negative reactions unless one was in fear of death or loss of limb.

$6,000-$8,000 a vile and typically use 3-20 depending on severity.

When I was 14 I got hit. My step dad (mean SOB) just laughed at me. I had the same experience as a previous guy. No anti venom and hurt like hell. I puked a lot for about 48 hours. It hurts like hell but if your healthy your just gonna be in a lot of swollen pain for about a week or two.

Wife was bitten by copperhead over a year ago on the foot. Insurance was billed $57000.00. 2 nights in ICU and anti-venom. Swelled up to her knee and looked like a bad bruise. She said it didn't hurt that bad and did not need any pain meds but could not walk on it for at least a week.

The weirdest thing was how yellow my right leg got. Very yellow and looked like chicken fat all over as the venom was being processed thru the lymph nodes. Swole up real big and then went the other way and leg shrunk smaller than left.

Great thing is only way you can tell is slight dent at bite site.

cotton mouths also STINK, if you know what they smell like a lot of times you know there,s one close by, I hate them worst of all snakes and YES they are aggressive, never had a rattle snake or copper head come @ me but I have had cotton mouths come@ me, besides they are just plain ugly. I can enjoy the patterns on diamond back, one of the best looking snakes in my book, had one for over a year in a tank, very fun to see if you can hold your hand to the glass when he strikes, going up to the ranch in a few weeks, hope to catch another2-3 ft,er

We had a friend of the family get bit and he almost died from a reaction to the anti-venom. My dogs get bit all the time and all they get is a benadryl.

On that note, I'm taking my labrador to Tucson this weekend for snake avoidance training. Hunting dove & teal in the desert, all wildlife like water sources and there's quite a few rattlers out here. I'll post a couple of pics of the live snake training when I get back. He gets his anti-venom booster from the vet next week as well (that's only $50 a shot and extends your time to get him to the vet) Taking no chances!
