    Couch to 5k

    Is there another alternative?

I tried it today and just can't do the running part. With my bad knees and a bulged disk in my back. The walking part doesn't bother me. I am at 315 and trying to get to 250. I am down from 340 but I hit a wall and I am stuck at 315 for almost a year now. All I have done at this point is change my eating habits.

nothing sweet, no soft drinks, beer, whisky.
Keep walking, add a a burpie or a jump rope to that walk every so often for a couple minutes.
I used to be very fit, got in a rut and jumped to 275. Just last week i started running again and now up to 2 miles fairly easy before work. This morning i ran 2 miles, 15 sprints of 30 yards and 30 push ups. I am adding a little every other day. Already lost 10 lbs.
Point is, do not give up, add a little something extra to keep it interesting and before long you'll hit that 250 mark.
    Keep up the good work

What he said ^^^^ maybe with your knee and back problem you could use an elliptical machine it's low impact and could help pull some weight off which could make your knee and back problems less.

I use a recumbent bike with a wide seat. Easy on the knees and other joints until I can get to a weight that will be more conducive to more walking and jogging.

          Good advice.

The last thing you want to do is exacerbate your problems by aggravating your pre-existing issues.

Stick with walking as well but pay close attention to those kness and your back. The art is in listening to what your body is telling you and having the good sense to listen.

start with your diet, eat more greens and less starchy carbs and meat. kick sugar to the curb, no more beer (vodka/tonic if you need a fix)

^^^^ if you can do that and add a little exercise, the weight will drop fast

Another option is swimming in a lap pool. The swimming has no impact on your body and you can build your core and strengthen your back.

Calories, calories, and oh, calories. For your weight, if you want to really lose weight and lose it quick, limit yourself to 1500 calories a day. Don't cheat. Plus walking or whatever else you can do to burn calories. If you do this, you'll be where you want to be in 6 months. Download the "myfitnesspal" app. to track your calories and progress.

I went from 210 to 160. All by counting calories. Before and after. My cornhole game greatly improved.

When I lost all of my weight, I used the eliptical for a few months while I transitioned to running. I lost 110 lbs (regained 15 of it but working it back down) by exercise and Weight Watchers. I still track what I put in my mouth.

I have already changed my diet. That is how I have lost the weight but now I am just holding and not loosing anymore.

                          EXCERCISE

Walking would be a great start. Like the others have said. Do not go to hard or to fast to begin with. Have you looked into getting a gym membership? Do you have any friends that might take on this journey with you? You can do eat.

I designed a couch to 5k once for school and it involved walking and power walking. People do not realize but when you walk your body is burning 100% fat. So just substitute walking fast for the jogging part. You can also try walking on grass this will give you some extra cushion on your joints.

IMHO a rowing machine is a better workout and even lower impact than an elyptical
