    Taking limbs off?

Wanting to change out limbs on my switchback from 60-70 lbs to 50-60 lbs and have a guy from out of state willing to swap me. Anybody ever swap limbs before? Also anybody around the San Antonio/Devine area have a press and know how to take limbs off and put different ones on? Any help is appreciated.

Wy not just take it to a shop and swap them there? Is isn't too bad if you have a decent press. Just take pictures before you take it apart, so you have a reference to put it back together with.

Nearest shop is quite a ways off and the guy that I'm swapping with lives out of state. Trying not to have to make 2 trips to a shop that's over an hour away. Kind of a weird deal, but have been looking for 60 lbs limbs for a while.

You might think about buying one of the Bowmaster "presses". They aren't really a press but are a cable/screw set up that will allow you to bend the limbs and pull off the string and cable. Release the pressure after pulling the strings off. Change the limbs and reassemble in reverse order.

I have a bowmaster and also built a press from a $20 harbor freight trailer jack. I can't imagine having a bow and not being able to do my own work on it.

I know. Been seriously considering getting a press, but even more interested in making one. You have any plans on the one you made with the trailer jack?

Just go to the DIY section on the green screen or the one on ArcheryTalk.com

There are several different ways to do it. My hardest part was fabricating the fingers. I used the sand pad off of the jack for finger material. It works like a charm.

Assuming you also know how to tune/time the cams by adding/removing cable/string twists changing limbs is no big deal with a press.

Make sure you have a list of the manufacturers specs and write down what your current specs are before you start the job. Specifically axle to axle length and brace height.

If you swap limbs without any regard for the specs, unless you are very lucky, you will have problems.

Limb swap is going to require a series of step to retune... unless yo have a press, loop material, serving, time and patience, this is best left to the "pros"

Especially this close to opening season.

Another thing to consider with dropping that much draw weight...arrow shaft spine

Makes sense. Maybe I will just have to make 2 trips. Arrow spine should be fine since I have it cranked down to around 60 lbs already, but the timing and getting it back to the original specs is a whole other story. Thanks for the input.

There's a LOT to swapping out limbs - its not just a matter of taking one set off and popping on another. Take it to a GOOD shop and get it done correctly and you'll save a ton of headaches. Not everything is a good DIY project.

Respectfully, If you don't own a press already, you don't have the prerequisite knowledge/skills to properly perform a limb swap.

Cool. Thanks nick. I need to make a press anyways so I can start learning. Always wanted to do my own work on my bow anyways.
