    Six Sigma certification

I'm considering taking the six sigma yellow belt course to try to spruce up resumé. Any info on the course, what to expect, how would employers in a large corporation, like CenterPoint energy, value it?

It was a huge buzz word type of thing a few years back. Now not so much, at least in the IT industry. We're focused on ITIL cents now. It's basically the same thing. Lol

Six Sigma is solid for someone who wants to work management like operations, strategy, project managers, etc. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for these types of jobs. The cert might not weigh as much these days, but good recruiters and hiring managers understand its a good amount of knowledge that they should be seeking for their company.

      Good luck!

If you really learn it so you can apply it you will benefit. If you just check the box, put it on a resume then its a waste of your time... In fact will hurt you. I can tell in an interview in less than 5 mins if you know your stuff.

It's applicable in every industry too

Same goes for pmp cert, except its harder to uncover actual understanding without some observation.

It's still a relevant certification to have, but you need to go all the way to black belt, especially if you plan on working in manufacturing. Lean and Green and what's in.

I'm a green belt since 06. A lot has to do with the culture you work in.....it takes their support to attend the meetings, support your projects, and help you grow. If its the thing to do, then do it. You'll be better off having been exposed to the thought process, either way.

            IMHO.

We use a different approach, it is called Lean Sigma.
It utilizes both the Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma princibles.
Through this process it helps all sorts of projects both large and small. I am a black belt and will say it comes in very useful.
It would be good training for you as long as your in a field or your future involves working for corporations that use it.
If so then it is worth the training.

I did LSS Green Belt training for my company three years ago but never completed my project because it was built around system changes that the company delayed several years. My company dropped the GB and and BB programs last year as part of cuts.

Go for it, you can make good money if you complete up to a black belt.

I did LEAN earlier in the year but with the focus on Supply Chain.

Everyone in our building is 6sigma certified. Now we are a machining facility, but it ain't got us crap. We've done this and the ISO stuff and VPP and haven't seen any gain at all. There's no telling how much our company has spent on this crap.
