and before everyone starts going off about VERSUS here is the clip from the Dallas Morning News' Stars blog explaining why Versus has the games. NOTE: don't shoot the messenger - I'm just the messenger here!

      The Versus decision
      9:36 AM Tue, May 06, 2008 |Mike Heika

"This is difficult and a little confusing to those of you who either can't get Versus, can't afford Versus or are just jumping on board the Stars bandwagon.

If you want to be a fan of this team, you need to have Versus on your television package.

The bottom line is ESPN just didn't show that much interest in the NHL during the last television negotiation. Not only did the World Wide Leader want to cut the price it would pay for the right to televise NHL games, it also wanted to relegate the games to ESPN2 and surround them with non-NHL programming. Versus came in and said it wanted the NHL, it would pay for the NHL, and it wanted to promote the NHL.

Basically, the network was saying it wanted to use the NHL to help build its business. But, in paying for the NHL and in paying to put out a quality product, Versus needs to make money. To make money, it needs to have cable companies value its product. The only way cable companies value that product is if the viewers request packages that include Versus.

So, the network is trying to get penetration and it's counting on you to help it do that. There is no local television telecast on KDFI or FSNSW during the Western Conference Finals and only one game is scheduled to be on NBC (Game 5 on May 17). So, if you want to watch the Stars, you have to have Versus.

It's a tough business decision, but one the NHL has decided is smart _ and I will say that once you do get Versus, you will probably be pretty pleased with the amount of hockey coverage you get.

You can clearly debate whether the NHL should be making this easier for fans to get on board, and I'm sure the Stars would love it if they could continue to have local telecasts, but this is the business decision they made a few years back. Versus jumped on board with the NHL to make money, so you have to get on board with Versus if you want to continue to be a fan."

No Ralph and Razor..........that brings the whole thing down. Vs doesn't do a bad job, but Stars hockey isn't the same without the greatest broadcasting tandem in sports.

Are Ralph and Razor on 820 AM with the broadcast? I may have to do the volume down on the TV while listening to them during the game thing. Hopefully there is not too big of a delay.

I'm happy Versus showed an interest in promoting hockey but I feel like I am watching video game quality circa 1980.

Not to mention the absence of Ralph and Razor. Assinine

The delay sucked last time, but if the delay is in the right direction....you might be able to sync up with tivo, or your DVR. If not, I'll probably just listen to them all.

Somehow I feel really small in this crowd...but at least I've got a pretty strong platform to stand on.

Oh, how I miss the Joe...

I'm just glad one of our sports teams in this town can make it past the first round of playoffs..... Come to think of it, the last time we had a championship in this town was with the Stars..

I paused game 5 a few seconds on my dvr and got the timing perfect with the radio, made for a much more enjoyable game.

What's the '2003-04 President's Trophy" banner? President of the Detroit Red Wings?

Oh, BTW, Go Stars! And be careful you don't get mugged and your car stolen while in Detroit

boys, there's a bunch of them banners that say something about Stanley and a cup in there too. don't think we can win the banner contest. just need to win four out of the next seven hockey games!

The Presidents Trophy goes to the team with the best regular season record, I believe they'll have one that says '07/'08 next year.

Detroit is an old, storied franchise, with many Stanley Cups to their credit.
