Computer Lesson for the day (virus's)

ok, wanted to post a "tutorial" for the day. I just ran into an issue

So you are browsing the internet, and you are noticing that web pages are taking a long time to load and the back button is a PITA taking forever to go back a page. THEN, all of a sudden you click on TBH, and it takes you to some random sight. You push the back button and it gets you to TBH...

THEN, all of a sudden BAM you get some crap on the screen that pretty much locks you out from doing ANYTHING! in my case right now it was a screen that said the United States Courts caught my computer giving out illegal material such as media/****ography (not adult)/music etc, and all use of my computer has been and is being monitored...

NOW, at this point you cant do ANYTHING. no buttons or clicks get you anywhere. Well at the bottom of the page it says to resolve this matter take cash to cash america or cvs and wire it to this acct #. WELL, I can tell you if the governement caught you doing something like this they would not ask you to pay them through CVS. Dont be to concerned about federal charges as I am sure you werent doing anything wrong (like in my case)

My 13 year old cousin was on my computer and who knows what she did (she wont be on it anymore).

ANYWAY, here is some steps you can take to correct this.

FIRST. can you do anything at all? Windows button? does the start menu pop up over it?

In my case it did not. All I could do was shut my computer down.

So, Shut down your computer and restart it.

as soon as it starts to turn on press F8 key (dont hold it. press it up and down continuously). Continue doing so until it gives you a black screen talking about safe mode.

    options will be

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command prompt

    Debugging mode
    Last known good configuration

    and a few others.

to access them use the up and down arrows on the keyboard and Enter to select one.

I would start with Safe Mode with Networking. That will give you access to the internet so you can download tools.

Now, in my case it did not work. It loaded and immediatly restarted. So, again hit F8 till the safe mode screen comes up.

If it Does work simply skip down to the system restore or even malwarebytes part of this thread

I then tried Just Safe Mode. again, same thing.

So I ran safe mode with command prompt and it came up.

NOW, this will look a little more complicated. A plain black screen wtih some white writing on it. C:\windows\system32 > is probably what it will look like.

NOW, at that prompt. Type "rstrui.exe" and hit "enter/return" This will bring up a program called "System Restore". some older virus's from years ago were good about blocking or disabling this program, but the newer ones have seemed to forget about it. 90% of the time lately this works for me.

Follow the steps. Pick a restore point. one a few days back before the issue started. or one before it started but after a program or software/hardware was installed (it will list it for you).

Once you do that Click restore my computer to this date/time...

This will take a bit, and will restart your computer. Once it restarts dont do anything until it says to login or brings up your desktop. Login. Once your desktop comes up wait a few moments and it will tell you your computer was succesfully restored or not...

NOW. your computer may seem better. GREAT!!! no. we are not done.

Although system restore gets your computer back up and working it does not always get rid of all virus's/spam/spyware...

at this point go out and install Malwarebytes. its free. (you can use the free version). if something is asking you to pay DO NOT DO IT! find it somewhere else.

Once you have it downloaded it will give you some boxes that are checked. One is a free trial. UNCHECK IT. the others say update and run malwarebytes. definitely update it.

NOW, I like to run malwarebytes in safe mode. You can do it from your live desktop but it seems to take a bit longer, and there are allot of things running that malware can be tied to.

I recommend going back into safe mode and running malwarebytes.

Once run remove whatever virus's it lists. That is a good start.

if you have any other software on your computer feel free to run that.

Hopefully this was clear enough. Just wanted to post an experience and basic way ANYONE can go in and attempt to clean up there PC and rid annoying virus/spyware/malware.

Good luck. each virus is different and programmed a different way to do different things.

If you need more help or yours is a bit more of a pain feel free to hit me up and I will help you out however I can.
