Questions about fixing a shoulder mount...

My friend shot a really nice Aoudad a couple years ago and the taxidermist did a terrible job on his shoulder mount, so my friend wants to take it somewhere else to get it fixed, so I have three questions:

    1. Can a taxidermist reuse the hide on a shoulder mount?

    2. If so, would that lower the price of the shoulder mount?

    3. Who does good work on Aoudad?

I think the answer to #1 is Its all acorning to what the taxi did or didn't do the the existing hide. #2 It might be cheaper to buy a hide that will fit the same size form and have a different taxi do the work. As far #3 goes I sorry I don't know that answer. Good luck and God Bless, Joe

      1. Depends if it is a tanned cape and how old. If it's dry preserved which if it's a poor mount it probably is.

      2. Not much because it will be some extra work rehydrating and removing the cape and fixing any problems.

      3. There are a few really good auodad taxidermist in this state.

A new cape is not cheap.

A mounted skin, no matter which tanning method was used, can build a memory.
Even if the skin was properly tanned, and if it can be removed from the manikin, it still might not be re-mountable.

His best bet is to find a good taxidermist and let him find a cape and remount it.

Even if the skin is remountable, I would still charge the regular price. There's not any less work, that would constitute a discount.
