    Which Gym and why?

I have 3 gyms (that I know of) and I'm considering joining one of them. I'm not really looking at muscle building but working on cardio. Need to loose a little weight and get the cholesterol down.

The three I'm looking at are Anytime Fitness (Schertz), Planet Fitness (Universal City), and Gold's Gym (Universal City/Live Oak).

I want something close to the house (Schertz off of Schertz Parkway), 24 hours, and an inexpensive membership fees.

Input on these gyms, wether it be the company or actual location, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Golds gym is a nice place, but no matter what gym you go to its gonna rack up a bill, that's why I started insanity. It is almost pure cardio, so I just use some dumbells and an old bench for my weight training. I am a proponent of working out at home, because it keeps me from feeling like working out it a chore.

On a different note, I see you hunt in Karnes city. I'm gonna be up there on Tuesday to set up my stand. I'm looking for a nice place for a simple HH... Know any good places?

I'd get planet fitness out of that list.

Ya I have no drive or will to work out so I figure if I'm spending money to do then I'll have some incentive to work out

As far as HH in Karnes City, I have no clue. This is my first season on there. I used to travel through there a lot a few years ago, but that place has boomed since then. Back then I noticed a lot of people hanging out at Barth's but no idea sinceb it's grown-up.

          Anytime fitness gets my vote.

I work out at one and prefer it way over golds.

Planet fitness is where the hoodlums work out at

Looks nice but I have no room for my own stuff in my house to put a gym together

^Thats what I did. Scored the bench and big dumbbell a from bowflex off Craigslist and got a squat rack / pull-up bar combo. Not much but it gets the job done.

I have not worked out at the other two, but I am a member at Golds gym. I go abou 5-6 times a week. Sometimes I work out with my son ( 3 days a week) and the others I do a class that is called Body Pump. With your membership at Golds the classes are not charged. They have everything from yoga, Zumba, cycling, Body Pump, etc.... Try and find someone to make the commitment with you, it will help you stick to it. I also try to run on my own.

Anytime Fitness. Not crowded and no constant sales pitches.

First, good luck on the new life style (cause thats what it is)

I have NO experience with the buisness you mentioned, I lift in a place one step up from a dungeon Just noted a few statments that are often mis understood:
Cholesterol- changed more by diet than excercise, also HUGE factor in testosterone production....cut it out "T" goes down, "T' goes down muscle goes down, muscle goes down fat goes up. (its a balance, but should be understood)

Cardio- most over hyped form of FAT loss there is. You can run for 1 hr and when finished your body will continue to burn calories for 30-45 min...lift weight to muscle failure for 45 min and BURN CALORIES FOR 72hrs AFTER. (want to burn fat...lift over "cardio")

Best of luck, find a balance in life between health and social life.

Got the diet going on now. It sucks but it's a good calorie watcher one. Not looking to loose a lot weight. Just trying to stay active. Tried running with wife... She long distance runner I'm a sprinter. Kinda hard to stay together. Her speed is slower paced and hurts. Feels like I'm stuck in 1st or 2nd gear trying to go faster. She doesn't like to ride bikes and I do. Figure I can go to a gym and run a treadmill easier than working from home.

You can achieve a lot with pushups, pullups, situps, dips, and running. This use to be my routine before I got seriously ill.
                            - 100 pushups (split up)
                            - 200 situps
                            - 30 - 40 pullups
                            - Running 3 - 4 miles
