I will be hunting in Ozona in west Texas this season and this will be my first time hunting out of a pop up blind. I am comfortable with shots between 20-30 yds. How far away from the feeder do you guys set up your blinds? Do i position 30 yds from feeder or from pen around feeder or is that too close? How do you position it relation to the feeder? North, south, east, west? I know it depends on the wind but in October the winds tend to shift since it is the very first cold fronts of the year but our wind predominantly comes from the east southeast and north northwest. So should I set up west southwest of feeder? Any advice or direction is appreciated. Thanks

You can set it up 30 yards away and be fine. The deer will move closer and farther while eating unless your feeder drops corn directly down. Personally, I like to position my pop-ups under trees or close to a lot of brush. It helps block the wind and naturally brush it in. I don't pay much attention to direction and consider that a minor issue. If you leave your pop-up set up for a month or two the deer will get used to it being there, just like if it was a tripod or box blind. One of the biggest advantages I would recommend is try to have a small bush or tree partially between you and the feeder so that if you need to move around or draw, you can wait until the deer is at least partially behind the tree and can't see you to do so. Find out where the trails are and where the deer typically come from and set up so that you aren't too close to there. I'm not a fan of shoot through netting because I use mechanicals. Don't open the windows behind you so the interior of the blind stays dark. Just my two cents

I used to hunt out of pop ups a lot. I think the wind does make a difference. Where I hunt now, the predominant wind is SSE, unless you have a norther blow in . I always place my stands to the WSW of my feeder and I try to set up at 20-25 yards. Get under a tree if possible and then you can tie a wire from a limb to the to the top of your pop up. Stake it down as good as you can too, and then brush it in. If you have any cedar use it ; it works great to make one hide. I would really pile it on mine. That's where wiring the roof up comes into play. It will keep the pop up roof from caving in if it gets too heavy . I had this happen a couple of times after big rains. I too have had some setups blown down from wind and tore up from cows one time too. We hunt out of 4x6 bow blinds now a days, with shooting windows and camo see thru mesh. Three of ours are 3' off the ground and the 4th one is on a trailer. We put carpet on the walls and floors and good desk type chairs on rollers in them. They are very quiet inside, and you can move around a little and get away with it. I know they are not as easy to move or set up as a pop up but they are much better to hunt from IMO and the wind isn't gonna mess it up. I hop some of this helps, good luck.
