    Opener for 10x10 garage door

I've got 2-10'x10' doors that I'd like to install openers on. I was going to hire the job out, but the cost was quite a bit more, than I anticipated, so now I'm looking at doing it myself. Can anyone suggest the best opener for the money? Thanks

Sears sells decent models that are relatively simple to install.

Is it a roll up or sectional door? You're kind of limited if you have a roll up door, but if its sectional you can use a residential opener to run it and save money. Several options available from Genie and Liftmaster in bely, chain and screw drive.

It's sectional. So, a 3/4 hp unit is powerful enough? Thanks for the info.

Is the door insulated? If not 1/3 hp or 1/2 hp is plenty of power. Also stay in 115 v single phase to reduce cost. 3-phase cost more. Pm any other questions. I work in the commercial dock and door business. I can't but residential operators from my supplier, but I know a few things.

A 1/2 HP chain drive residential unit will be more than enough to operate the door and is your cheapest option. Just make sure when you buy it the rail is made for a 10' tall door. I would suggest you get it from a garage door supplier over a retail store like lowes/home depot so you can get a 1 piece rail. The retail outlets sell operators with rails that slide &/or bolt together which is your weakest point if that's the case.

Genie residential stuff from the box stores used to be pretty good stuff. I just hung a new 1/2 horse screw drive yesterday and like everything else nowadays they look like they are cutting corners on things to save a $ but it's still a good way to go. My old one needed a new control board thanks to a lightning strike. Genie parts quoted me a price and told me I may want to try a local place to save on shipping costs. Local place had it in stock but was $12 higher than Genie's price plus shipping! So I just bought a new unit as it wasn't that much more and there was always the risk that the new control board was not my only issue but I wouldn't find that out until I installed the new board. Easy install and programming of remotes. My last Genie screw unit lasted 15 years until it got fried.
