    Tent recommendation?

Looks like i'm going to be going old school this season. I had bought a used camp trailer for the new lease. Once i got the thing home and started checking it out more closely - well, let's just say i should have looked closer before i bought this used trailer. Lesson learned. Anyway, it's not road worthy. So, i'm going to take everything off, down to the trailer frame, and rebuild. That'll take me awhile.

So, do you's have any recommendations on a decent tent, not too big, that'll help keep a brother warm and dry? Thanks.

Check with DIrtymike. He borrowed one a while back and liked it so much that he kept it. Maybe he can give you a brand name

No brand recommendations here, but make sure you get one big enough you can be away from the walls and also get a cot. You'll stand a better chance of having dry blankets in the event it rains for a couple days.

On a serious note, we used a tent one year. Left it up all season but we disuse somer panel, canvas and some 2x4s to make a shelter for it. It wasn't pretty but it worked.

For a medium priced "campsite tent" I've had good luck with Cabela's brand. I don't know who makes them but I have one from what they used to call their "Alaskan Guide Series," that has taken a beating and has held up well for 15 years. Here's a 7 man for $329

I camp in a tent when I hunt, but then again, I go minimal. I sleep in an REI brand quarter dome T2 and on a sleeping pad. Never had any issues. The nice thing about minimal, is it doesn't take me forever to set it up and take it down. I'm unpacked or packed in 10-15 minutes. Gun, gear, etc stay in the car.

BTW, REI is a good brand. They have a no-hassle return policy as well. Then again, I have a store nearby so that makes it more convenient.

(an aside) I actually purchased my tents at thier "garage sale" where they sell thier returned items at 50-75% off. It is interesting to see the stuff they took back and replaced with new gear, some of it looks pristine, but some of it looks like it was put through the ringer.

I bought a Slumberjack 4 person trail tent a couple of years ago and have used it on numerous Boy Scout campouts and summer camp a couple of months ago and love it. I found it at Academy on clearance for $70, which is half of what the MSRP is. I was using a eight person family camping tent that I got from BPS several years ago but it was too much of a pain for me to pitch just for myself. The Slumberjack takes about five minutes to set up alone. I can fit my oversized cot in there and still have plenty of room to move around in.

Coleman Instant Tent is great. I've had one a couple of years and have used it at the lease and on camping trips. Super easy to put up and down. Can even be done in the dark, without help, several beers in.

Just don't keep food in there, coons don't knock or use zippers.

I second this. I bought my 3 room tent 14 years ago from REI. I had to replace one pole ($3 due to human error), but it has been everywhere across the state. They took back a Go Pro I bought for my brother after he messed it up and replaced it for free for him. Worth purchasing at REI.

I have first-hand experience with this and will agree 100%.

I would check amazon and look at the ratings and reviews of this and other tents. Good luck with the trailer - I hope it turns out great. Might want to start a DIY thread for it
