    Hunting Season Resolutions

Well it's coming up on that time of year again. Lets hear your hunting season resolutions.

I have a few: To push myself each hunt, to wake up before the alarm even has time to buzz, and to remember that some other things come first before hunting.

The second one is to try my best to instill in others the sense of purpose in the pursuit of game, not just the kill. To realize that the journey that comes with trying to hunt an animal is the destination, rather than the kill itself. I'm gonna be working my tail off this year to get my nephew on a deer. I hope he learns to appreciate that feeling of freedom and sense of peace that comes from being in the woods.

"When a hunter is in a tree stand with high moral values and with the proper hunting ethics and richer for the experience, that hunter is 20 feet closer to God." - Fred Bear

    Good stuff!
Now only for me this year except when my kids are with me.
I'm going to go to great lengths to control my scent.

A few years ago I vowed I would go to greater lengths to be as sent free as I can possibly be. Since I've done that, I've seen my mature buck encounter ratio sky rocket. It's a full blown pain in the *** to be honest with you, but it works and its worth it. This year I'm taking I 1 step further mostly due to the properties I'm hunting. I'm going to put the same amount of effort to make sure I'm undetected going into the stand. In 3 sets I have, this could mean waking up 2 to 3 hours earlier than I normally would.

You said it all man, make sure i am not so concentrated on the kill that I don't get to enjoy the journey throughout the season, which is the best part.

I started making a batch of homemade scent away last year. I use a TON of it, at the truck and after I get to my spot. Its more economical than having to go through a ton of scent away/scent killer etc, and I'm el cheapo. The other thing I do is hang my stands 25ft.

Good luck to everyone this year!

As some have said already focus more on the hunt and not the kill. Thinking about getting off my feeder and hunting trails etc. Kimberly has decided to give hunting a shot this year so ill be enjoying that. And on the duck hunting side I'd really like to get a nice bull can and bull sprig. Also enjoy the comradery of the duck blind more than scratching out a limit.

My biggest ones are to get out as much and as often as I can. It'll be hard since I don't have a lease, but I've got some great friends that I think are going to help me out.
I just bought Corala her first bow, so my other goal is to do my best to get her her first bow kill.

My number one goal is to get my youngest daughters their first deer. No doe in East Texas is gonna be safe until the twins connect.

Mine is the same every year. Put meat in the freezer.

Another is for my daughter to take a deer this year.

Have fun and make sure the gate sign that reads "No drama queens and kings allowed at campsite no matter how drunk you are" gets reinstalled.
