Babe's Chicken is good. Stumpy's Lakeside Grill has great food too. Both are in Granbury.

Ask around and see if R.C. "Mac" McFall owner of McFall Mountian Ranch is around, he normally spends lunch at Hammond's at the special table in the back. Ask him if you can take your kids to see the dinosaur tracks behind his old farm house off the Puluxy River grounds? He is a great guy and lipping full of knowledge.

Also the state park is a great place to mess around in, tons of wildlife and a good swimming hole. The Head Park Ranger is a lady from China Springs and is great to work with.

This guy know what he is talking about. Listen to him. Also, if you are looking for a good breakfast place the Big Cup Eatery is always a good choice.

Thanks for the suggestions! Usually when we go camping, I'm working the grill every evening. I think this trip will be dinner out every night! It's also different because we aren't staying at a state park. We're staying at a RV park (Oakdale) so I'm assuming that it is more central to everything.

One little small last thing; when you eat at the Green Pickle go ahead and order a slice of whatever pie they have on the counter that day.....normally chocolate and or coconut cream. 1 slice will normally feed 2 and are outstanding!!!

                  Have a good one.

the pie shop downtown is amazing. and i much prefer debies for breakfast over big cup. youll love fossil rim if you go early in the morning before it gets hot. the animals tend to hide from the sun later in the day. outstanding organization.
my favorite places to eat are the pickle and hammonds. hollywood and vine is also cool and they have live music in a family atmosphere every fri and sat night.

Man it was hot there this weekend!

Ended up only going to the donut shop next to brookshires, subway, and the green pickle. We stayed there Thursday night - today. Went shopping at brookshires and ended up grilling more than I had planned. We stayed at Oakdale park so after swimming no one had the energy for going out to eat. So while the kids got ready for bed, I grilled.

                      We did:
                      Fossil Rim park
                      Dinosaur valley state park
                      Dinosaur World
Big Rock Park (across the street from where we stayed)

Had a good trip and would definitely go back. Nothing wrong with the park and thought it was pretty good. Pool there was good but closed way too early (7pm).

Next time, I may just stay in Burleson at Jellystone park and drive over for the day. I would probably skip Fossil Rim. It's cool but we've done the one outside San Antonio and the one in Johnson City so much that this was kind of a letdown for the price. It's bigger than the others and the giraffes would be cool but they were in their fence for "herd management" reasons.

In all it was a good trip and got to see a part of the state that I haven't seen since I was looking at playing football for Tarleton way back in 89. Got some good quality time with the family and I know they enjoyed the dinosaurs. Definitely a thumbs up for going if you've never been.
