At first glance I also thought it a Coopers, but after looking closer I believe that it is a juvenile red tailed. It looks as if the chaps come farther down on the legs, so I think red tailed hawk.

It is too big to be a Coopers.

Hawks are migrating now and it is fun to watch all of the species come through. In the spring, they will cover our pastures for 4 - 6 weeks. At least 20-30 can be seen.

I've emailed the link to a friend the bird biologist....I'll report when I hear from him.

Tails too long to be a Red-Shoulder, I'm going with sharpshinned. Let me see what I can find out.

Cool thread, I like hawks. Thankyou for the vid. Heres one from my backyard the other day, heard a couple of crows going nuts and went outside to see them circling and diving on this guy, didn't faze him a bit. I've seen crows pestering hawks before, anyone know why they do that?

              Now I'm pretty sure it's a immature Red-Shoulder hawk.

Order FALCONIFORMES - Family ACCIPITRIDAE - Subfamily Accipitrinae

I shot the video on August 22. I've seen these hawks here at all times of year. I wonder if it is endemic to Honduras or is it a migrant from you northener's way?

                Anybody know?

Honduras, you say? I think that rules out the red-shouldered. According to the range maps I found, they shouldn't be that far south, particularly at that time of year.
