    Any Chevy Mechanics?

I rescued a 95 Z71 (5spd) and put a rebuilt motor in it. I advanced the timing about 2 degrees, it seemed to be the sweet spot where it ran the best. I have just under 5K miles on it now.

It generally idles around 900rpm, but here recently it started jumping up to 1400 on occasion and the SES light comes on and off. It only does this on occasion. I gave all the vacuum lines a quick check and all seem to be fine, so I’m more or less scratching my head. Any suggestions?

    Thanks - Chris

SES won't stay on long enough to give me any codes, it's only on for about 2 seconds are less when it comes on. I don't think on a 95 it will store them, correct? Has to be on to obtain the code from what I'm told.

Well, 2 degrees is wrong. should be 0 WITH the timing connector unplugged. (Brown plug at pass firewall) Can't fool those computers. I would def try that first

Does it shift hard when the idle is high?

This is the first time I see a Chevy with a LITTLE issue should be an easy fix Chevy rocks!

5 spd, so no worries with shifting. Tonights project is to bring the timing back down to 0 degrees and see if that helps, then go from there. Just seemed real sluggish with no power with it set at 0. Runs like a scaled ape with it advanced.

on second thought, that timing connector might be under the floor carpet just below the heater box in pass compartment. They can be in one of those 2 places

I know were it is, it's right under the glove box. Going to readjust timing tonight. Might just be the motor is good and broke in now, who knows. Try that then the TPS if need be.
