the wild fisheries are whats closing down KS. the farm raised stuff in the store is still viable if i gather right. dont quote me on that now but it makes sense to me!
Holy crap! I've got a Salmon Fishing Trip planned in Canada/Alaska (Queen Charlotte Islands) in June. Does this ban include that neck of the woods, too? Guess I'd better get on the phone with the Outfitter.
Canada is safe, show us some pictures. Are you going to The Queen Charolett Lodge. If this is not a group get together you need to get with my F-I-L, He goes to North King Lodge and is 100% better.
Yes...I'm going to a the Queen Charlotte Islands in BC. Talk about being out in the middle of nowhere! You fly into Van Couver, catch a commuter plane to Langoria Island and the catch a helicopter out to the Queen Charlotte Islands. There is a fantastic Lodge at the top of the hill whereby the fly in a chef from Van Couver to prepare all of the meals for the guests. It is a 5 star operation. Oh yeah, I am going with a group people.
The salmon numbers are WAY down on return to spawing rivers on the East Coast. Everybody's pointing fingers but it's probably a combination of factors. Pollution, commercial (over) fishing, etc. When nature starts acting up like that it's warning us.
The article doesnt say why its failing. anyone know other than "dwindling numbers?" whats causing the fish to do whatever they are not doing?
I'm going to pull a "Leggy" it has been said by more than one researcher that there is a very small increase in water temp. that is affecting the fish..
It is even effecting the Bear populations because they live through the winter months on the fish they eat from the spawing, recently they had to kill off a big number of bears because they were becoming less fearful of humans and coming into town more and more to feed..
Believe it or not, we do have a real fish and game department in Cali. Here's a link to the salmon fishery page, lots of links and info. I think the answer is they're not sure why the salmon numbers are down so low. Blame global warming and Al Gore can sell salmon-offset-credits and make another $100 million dollars.
