    Should I be happy or glad about all the embassy closings??

    I know this is super complicated and REALLY don't want this to turn into a nuked thread, so 'try' to keep this very heavy topic with well & though out Replies. Read twice, click once. Please ignore & keep the obvious comments meant to throw gas on the fire to burn out on their own. Do not quote an obvious trap.

    Keep this 'light hearted' as possible & we will understand your position, I promise...being blunt will whack it and adds no value. I honestly would love to hear the thought process from some people hear who are much more articulate than I and i really do need to get out of my tunnel vision / trigger happy thoughts and wrap my head around what the implications are here. Certainly, I cannot be the only one smh over this.

    1. Why would the admin announce it at the top of the mountain and not be more descrete about the closings...is this to let all the Americans/friendlies who are traveling in the region understand the severity, or am I over thinking / missing this in your face approach. I feel like this brazen announcement could be harmful / backfire to all connected with the embassies, the good guy /gals tourists & all our warriors. I just got a weird feeling & sticks in my craw. Can't figure out why.

    2. I kinda dig saying adios IF I ONLY think of our warriors in the region and these closings will indeed have one less concern and better use of the most valuable resources / assests we Americans value in the war torn area.

    3. I still don't like the appearance of tuck tail and run and maybe just a pride factor as ^#2^ and the saving of one life well outweighs another attack. Guess we will never know how serious this threat from el caca really was.

    4. The whole area is a time bomb...while I throw up in my mouth a little every time someone discredits what happened in benghazi, I cannot help but consider this a good move even if self serving. Although i will never understand why any America would want to go visit a place where most of the natives hate you, I do have some concerns if they are not on a plane headed back now.

    5. What are the real implications of these closing and the short / long term outcome?? This is pretty crazy, is it not??

    I'm conflicted on this. One the one hand, if the short term closures saved American lives then it was a wise move. (but we'll never know) Both (R) and (D) members of the Senate Intelligence Committee who have seen the intel say a real threat was imminent.
    On the other hand, I find this pre-emptive "cowering" unworthy of a great country, even kind of humiliating. Why do we allow a bunch of extremist thugs to close us down? For what purpose do we pay for the world’s best military and intel service if not to protect ourselves from this sort of threat? Isn't anybody scared of us anymore?

    I know this is easy for me to say sitting in the safety of my house in North Texas - instead of being in the line of fire - but I think letting us get bullied like this sends a bad message to enemies and allies alike.

      My thoughts are that this warning is a hoax. Meant to justify why the government needs to spy on everyone.

          A weak attempt to make the Benghazi mess look like it was someone else's fault.

              My thought exactly. Don't do a thing, and something bad happened to four great Americans, now its like, look how pro-active we are, see it really wasn't our fault.

              Little too late I'm thinking

                I'm glad you chimed in Jerp...always felt you were sharp and your posts have always carried a lot of merit on this site. I get your frustration!!

                ~~~~~~~
                M16/Keg/Darrell...i have not tossed out the tinfoil either amigos & never will until we have the change in office.
                This is only because of fast and furious (and other phony scandals)...the fact the US people did not come uglued and nobody got pinched from this travesty, tells me any and all opinions can become viable. I would have lost a lot of money on that bet chief...if you told me of the F&F plans & that it would kill a BP agent and mexican civis & the unlawful act would still be succesful in creating new restrictive gun laws, even when the good guys admitted to breaking the law?? I'm still at a loss and still sticks in my craw.
                      I don't know what to think about it yet. It's probably one of two things - or maybe a third option that is a combination of the first two:
                      1. The threats are real, and instead of sending in protective forces to stand up to the terrorists, the Administration is choosing to pull everybody out of our embassies. While it's a given that they're not willing to stand up to the muslims, they don't want to be accused of "not doing anything" this time. The last thing they need politically is another Benghazi, so they're abandoning the embassies. That's better than leaving the embassy staff alone to fend for themselves, but it's not the kind of action you'd expect from the world's biggest super power.
                      or...
                      2. The threats are fabricated. It's a made-up opportunity for the Administration to ride in and "save the day". They'll be shouting it from the mountain tops when it blows over and nobody died, averting another Benghazi, etc.... Just a lame attempt to distract the media and the low info crowd that should be focused on Benghazi, the NSA spying, the IRS abuses, the looming Obamacare disaster, etc.....
                      or...
                      3. A combination of the two. Real threats that aren't as serious as they are claiming them to be combined with a political instinct to never waste a good crisis..... "Let's pretend this is really bad, and then we'll ride in on our white horses and save the day and we'll be heroes and then everybody will forget about all those scandals we're involved in...."
                      I have no idea what it really is. But we know by all past behavior that, above all else, this Administration's actions are designed to do what is best for them politically. That's the only thing that matters to them. That's why it's often so hard to figure out what is going on. Average folks like us tend to think in terms of what is best for the country, so their actions don't often make sense to us.
                        When you have a moronic idiot in office like we do now there is no telling. He is still busy trying to keep people in the know about Benghazi silenced with signing non disclosures. This whole administration is an embarrassment to this country.
                        O needs to be water boarded to find out what all he knows and what deals he has made along with what bad policy that he has passed with the intent to hurt this country.
                          Congress is seriously considering defunding the NSA spying. This is an effort to show how a major terrorist attack was thwarted by using the data gathered. There is NO other justification for leaking it to the news if a real threat was imminent.
                          American lives saved! Now how could ANYONE opposed such a wonderful program?
                            good stuff guys...no idea about the possibility of defunding gg Maybe we do have some patriots left??
                            I do not grasp what the closing an emabassy means for the surrounding populous...especially in this spectrum. Personaly, I would not cross into mexico if i knew the embassy was closed.
                            Seems it would raise tensions as the area is already dusfuntional and unstable, but will defer this to pure speculation. Maybe the region could care less if we pack up and bolt town?? I don't know...I would imagine the emabssy was a hoppin place and not enough $$$ in the world for me to work at one.
                            This area closing shop is jacked up...I hope there are lots of SO/SF standing elbow to elbow and chingos of boots on the ground. I don't think i'll follow the main stream on this story, as I'm sure it will frustrate me even more. Praying things go off without a hitch. Wonder what defcon Israel is on??
                            Crazy stuff!!
