    Tough day...

Today is my wife's and my 17th anniversary. We were out eating lunch with the kids, and my son and I finished and headed home. When we pulled into the street, there was something laying in my yard, but I couldn't quite make out what it was. So my son and I park the car, and start walking across the yard when I can finally see that it is my wifes cat, dead. I tell my boy to go back into the house, and then these 2 pitbulls come running from my porch towards me. I kick the snot out of one of them, and they take off towards my neighbors yard. I saw they had collars, but couldn't see tags, havent ever seen them before.

Go back inside after collecting our dead cat, and let the neighbor know I saved their cat out of the tree and put it in their backyard, but to watch for those dogs. He said the dogs were layed up under a bush in the front of his house, and he was grabbing his gun and to meet in his yard.

I get there first, grab the little one and start dragging it away from the house to an area I could make a safe shot into. The big one bows up, and starts charging at me, in which i immediately put a bullet into his skull. Take the other smaller one and do the same.

I proceeded to clean up the mess and dispose of the dogs because I didnt want mine or my neighbors kids seeing the bloodbath. I called the sheriff to report what had happened (I am outside the city limits), and they acted as if they couldn't have cared less. Said I had the right to defend my property, and it sounds like I did a good job. Even told me to just dispose of them in the dumpster... All which seems a little strange to me...

So now I gotta burry this dang cat, I killed two of my favorite animals (Dogs, doesnt matter the breed) and our anniversary is all messed up! Yup, tough day...

        Dang. That sucks.

Good job on ridding us of two worthless dogs though. I'd have done the exact same thing in your shoes

Hate to hear you had to take care of this and especially today.

I will tell you what my Mother's parents did for her when one of the cats got killed. They had a New Orleans style funeral for the cat for the children in the neighborhood. The march up was somber and after the burial they sang happy stuff back from the barn and had ice cream.

She always laughed telling the story until she died.

          Sorry this happened

yea, they could probably care less. I live in a wilson co where the law told me to shoot'em too. No such thing as animal control in the country. We've go something running around our neighborhood too that has killed two fawns in the past month. Whatever it is eats the guts and ribs and leave them there. Better not be that yellow lab I see every day across the street !

I say good job! If this country had more men of action like you we would not have the problems we have today.

If you need another cat for your wife, let me know. We have some kittens that are barn cats, but they are tame and we have too many of them. Also have two grown cats, that are house broken, but my parents are looking for a good home for them.

                  Just let me know. Thanks.

You did the right thing. Hopefully spending some qt with the wife and kids will help salvage the evening some.

I did the same thing last week at my place. Two pits are at my barn when I get there and wont scare with hollers and such. When one growled that was it. I found my ol barn can and she was good up on top of a tractor so I went to the house and got my 870 with #4's. Went back over to the barn and they were laid up in the shade under a lean. I kicked at them and hollered till I ****** them off. That lured them away from the building and towards me. They were about 20 feet away when I blew their freakin faces off.
Come on my place and won't leave then growl at me...sorry but Id do it again if I had too. I love dogs. All dogs but not intruders that are known to be aggressive. We have dogs and other farm animals that could be easy prey for a pair of pits.

Thank you for the offer, but I'm not really a cat person due to allergies. I'm kinda hoping that this was the end of our cat ownership period. We've got 3 dogs, which is plenty.

I'm ok with killing these dogs, they had a taste for blood and were out doing what they do. Just gotta think about what if those dogs had gotten a hold of a kid? I really hope an owner doesnt come around looking for where there dogs went. I don't want to have that conversation. I'm going to stay quiet about it, but a few kids on golf carts and a couple of other passerby's saw the results, so who knows.

Thanks to you all for helping me affirm my actions were the right ones!

Good job ridding your neighborhood of a couple trouble dogs. I'm not a big fan of shooting dogs but when they're aggressive towards humans and they're off the owner's property, they need shooting.

Sorry for the loss of your family pet. That's always hard.
