    New Job

I just got the email from another agency offering me a job that the hiring manager personaly came to me to offer. I informed her that the posting pay was lateral and I didn't want to apply for a lateral position without a pay increase. She told me to apply and she would "take care of it". Well they offered me a $225 a month pay increase.
My question to y'all is have you ever just accepted the first offer or would you ask for at least $100 more a month?

The reason is I ride a vanpool at my current position and it saves me around $300 a month in gas. If I take this new position then I will be losing that savings so I was just trying to offset it. What do y'all think?

Even with the increase, you still just breaking even in money, but what about future opportunities. Weigh the cost of breaking even agaist future opportunities and increases if any. I learned a valuable lesson when I was young, never, never accept a job just for the money. Only do that if you're unemployed.

There is not enough money on the table (either way) for the decision to be made based on money. Is it a better job for you based on the work, the people, the opportunity, etc.
Work (and life) is about so much more than money.

Sorry. I'm not leaving just for the money. This new job will open so many more oppurtunities for me in the future. My goal is to ultimately come back to the agency I work for or another one in mind in a few years after I gain some more experience and value to my self. I would be leaving for more room for growth, experience, and furthering my career. The money is just so I know what I am getting up front. With the state, if there is a "budget crisis" they will freeze pay and then you are stuck. Happened here and nobody has had any pay increases in over 5 years.

I am pretty stoked. It is going to be a possitive move. Not that I was unhappy here but I have to think about my family and do what is best for them and will best for them in the long run for our future. A little extra cash was just an insentive.
Plus my father in law just gave me a 2001 Infiniti I30 to help me out with that gas situation. The truck would have sucked it up pretty good going from Kyle to downtown Austin every day.

Well it worked. They agreed to the money and I got me a new job and a little more spending cash.
