    Question....LOTS of dead doves.....

I live in Waxahachie and for the last month or so, there have been ALOT of dead doves lying around. I drove through the alley yesterday and counted 11 dead on a strip maybe 30 yards wide by 250 yards long. I have found 10 or so dead around the house and back alley the last couple weeks. Yesterday I had one drop about 10 feet from me in the driveway(I mean that sucker hit the pavement hard) He looked as though he was gasping for air, I put some water out and poured a little bit over him, he perked up a little after five minutes or so and then very slowly flew to the tree about 10 yards away......Any ideas on what is going on........could it be from the heat?!?!?

West nile virus? Maybe somebody feeding treated grain?

I see you hunt in Brownsboro. That's my hometown. Headed there now. Where abouts do you hunt?

If in a neighborhood, someone could have poison out - not necessarily for dove. Non- intended targets.

I haven't noticed anything like that around my area, I'm in Mansfield.

There is a huge powerline that runs behind the house....I thought about that as well

They may be spraying for skeeters and the poison gets em

My old boss used to put poison out on the top of his commercial building to keep them from roosting and crapping on cars. Could be the same in your area.

Don't know for sure but I doubt it would be the heat. They seem to thrive in the hotter temperatures.

Animals only get electrocuted by touching the power line and something else(like the ground or another power line). Doves are too small. Birds with large wingspans like hawks and eagles can sometimes get electrocuted.
