When Do You Hang Your Lock On Stands?

Any rules of thumb here? When to hang and how long to leave hanging safely? As I recall, the instructions that came with my stand say 6 weeks max. but I gather that many around here hang theirs longer than that. So what say you?

    Thanks!

I had a change of plans and hung one 4 days before I hunted it last year and had deer coming right underneath it. If you hide it well and do it mid-day when the deer are not active then you should be good to go.

Edit: I didn't read your post very well. I leave mine up for 6 months at a time....but I will check or change the straps.

Thanks! So, generally, you could hang one now and leave it up until the end of the year? (Assuming you do it right and use an extra strap, etc.)

I have nine that stay up year round. Have done this for years. Just check and replace any straps that look or feel weathered. I use two ratchet straps on all of mine. Seat cushions and covers go on about two weeks before season begins.

I hang mine as soon as I see good buck activity once I start seeing rubs. I've hung lock on's with my buddy and killed 150 class the next afternoon. Killed several nice bucks hunting this way. Just get in and out as fast and quiet as you can and give it a day to rest and you will be fine. As long as you use the wind correctly.
