It's funny how a south or west Texas deer act differently to a feeder than an old E Tx buck.
Txtrophy, all I can say, next time you get a chance to come to Panola Co, you got an open invite to come hunt with me. We got some BIG bucks on our place and you are welcomed to hunt any one of them!!

I have hunted in E TX all my life. Heck, I grew up there. I will say that depending on "Hunting" pressure and other aspects we dont see many deer during the day. That being said we started hunting the trails between beding and feeding grounds and can say we see way more bucks around our feeders/cameras than normal. Our feeder pens are a safe haven for all deer (hogs is another story). But point being if your killing them over the feeder then the big mature bucks are going to get smart. They didnt get big by being dumb. Hunt the trails......Heck manufacture shooting trails leading to your feeders/foodplots and set up along those trails. Deer like the path of least resistant. In ETX its thick so find where they are bedding and feeding and ambush in between.

I think our deer in Panola Co would FREAK OUT if I put a pen around a feeder!!

I just setup a couple feeders out in panola county. I'm not sure how it will be when season hits but as of now we have deer at our feeders all day long. We have real wide pens they can get in by ducking under or jumping the fence. We have been feeding them since April and they come like clock work through out the day.
