    Black Mouth Cur

I was talking to our vet yesterday about getting a dog for our daughter, sometime over the next year. He recommended a Black Mouth Cur. Anyone have any experience with them????

What do you plan on doing with the dog? If it is just gonna be a pet I think there are better breeds to go with.

My buddy just got one abt 2 months ago. When he got it, it was only a couple weeks old. It was a very sweet dog, just a couple days ago it got run over in front of his house while he was playing in the yard. Sad

Got one and love her to death. Hunted her for a few years then she became a lap dog. Very friendly and protective .

Like Lacy's, curs are working dogs - you don't work 'em, they find work.

You won't like the work they find.

My pups 'make work' project includes digging to china in my back yard and eating most of my air conditioning unit.

Still a wonderful, loving family dog - although when she sees another dog she pretty well becomes unglued for some reason.

All I know about them, I heard in a song:
"he'll do whatcha got in mind.
he'll tree any coon, catch any hog, pen any steer in sight! He'll watch over your youngin's and defend them, until he breathes his last breath!"
How can you go wrong with a dog like that?

My uncle has had them for hog dogs since I was little. His are great working dogs but would not make great pets. Most of them are some of te sweetest dogs but they have an aggressive streak that will come on at anytime. My grandma had an old male for a watch dog when I was a little kid. I could ride him, wrestle and do what ever but those are few and far between. They are bred for working and that's it. Like said above, much better breed choices to go with. Vets are smart people, and I'm not knocking yours but they aren't always right.

We have one. She's a great dog. She sleeps in the utility room at night, and is very loyal. She gets along great with our other dogs, and is not the least bit aggressive. She's pretty spoiled.
