There's a host of good quality knives out there. Which one is best will be pretty much deteremined by what you happen to like.

Here's a listing of some of what I have. They are all quality knives, some expensive, some not. What particular pattern (shape, size, number of blades, etc.) is up to you and what your going to use it for.
      Case
      Weidmansheil
      Henckels
      Moore Maker
      Wenger
      Victorinox
      Openel
      Mora
      Bulldog
      Boker
      Buck
      Hen and Rooster
as well as several Chinese made knves that are very good.

What do I usually use as and every day carry knife? A Victorninox huntsman. Why? It has a lot of tools, including a decent/useable saw. Is easy to keep sharp, you can literally sharpen it on the side walk if you want. It's inexpensive (notice I didn't say cheap). What do I carry in the field? A Case 5 1/2 Folding Hunter that I've had since 1965. Carried a Case Copperhead during time in Vietnam, it was basically a scalled down 5 1/2' hunter. Not to be confused with the Case Copperlock.

My advice is to learn how to sharpen what you have. Everything else is going to get dull sooner or later, mostly sooner. No knife is any good unless it's sharp. There are a multitude of ways of accomplishing that. Probably check out a couple wood carving sites or maybe pick up a beginners wood carving book off ebay. Most of them start out with a how to sharpen your knife section. Can't carve wood unless you knife is ultra sharp.

I purchased this knife about a year ago and LOVE IT!!! I wanted a wood handle, blade to lock (I've closed way to many case knives on my fingers one time cut to the bone) so locking blade for me is a must, good blade material, and good quality. I had a sheath made for it and wear it on my belt. Not a "Bone Collector" nut but this is a great knife for the price. They make a mini version that I wouldn't mind having also. Lots of great knifes out there...

I like the "sodbuster" style knife. I have a couple Case SB'ers, and they are ok for SS blade. My knife of choice though, is the Eye Brand. CS blade that easy to sharpen, and holds a edge. Im pretty sure you can get a lock blade version, but not on the Case SB.

Plus, this knife looks really good in a rawhide scabbard on your hip!

I like Case XX. Sodbuster Jr or mini trapper are both good for pocket carry. If you want one to wear on your belt get a full size trapper and have one of the guys here on the forum make you a sheath for it.
