Beagle owners. I have a question...

I have a 2 year old male beagle. He has some kind of skin rash on his underside and between his hind legs that will not seem to go away. The vet gave him prednisone believing it to be some kind of allergy. We have also been giving him an antihistamine. No success. His rash has not improved at all and I feel bad for him.

He scratches all the time and licks himself as well. It's driving my wife and I nuts cuz he sleeps in our bedroom. Are any of you familiar with skin disorders or anything that may be particular to beagles? Thanks

P.S. We changed his food, treats, etc. back to what he had before the rash started without any change in his status.

I have a 14 year old female that knock on wood has always been easy to care for, no real issues.

I had a lab that did the same thing. After a few visits to the vet she finally diagnosed it as a hypoallergy to staph. This has been a few years ago so I don't remember exactly what got rid of it. I want to say it was some type of steroid and a topical spray.

Allergic to grain? Grain free food worked wonders for mine

My son's beagle would have it, the vet gave some antiseptic shampoo and fixed him up. He would have to bath him with about every 3-4 months. Sorry don't remember the name though.

Barney Ray is allergic to just about everything. We've tried the tests and the shots for the last 5 years to no real avail. We have settled on a low maintenance dosage of prednisone and a antihistamine which keeps him at a livable state. When he really breaks out we use Sulfodene on him a couple of times a day and the red will go away in a couple of days.

We tried bathing him, shots, foods the whole nine yards and the above is the only thing to give him any relief at all. For a while the vet was trying to get us to put him down as it was just painful to watch him suffer.

We have 2 beagles, one is 2yrs old with no issues, and one that is 9 yrs old that has just about everything. He is allergic to grass even, and we give him Benadryl whenever he starts itching constantly or sneezing..... Yes my older beagle sneezes all the freaking time.

Sounds crazy to even suggest, but maybe another veterinarian's examination and diagnosis just MAY be a better idea than TBH.... I don't know, just a hunch

                        X2. Change your hounds diet.

I use Nu Stock and it has worked great on one of my beagles.

Also I suggest going to Tractor Supply and get some Blu-Kote and Oatmeal Shampoo. Bath in the shampoo daily and apply the Blu-Kote when he dries off.

Some old timer beaglers recommend apple cider vinegar.

If you use the Nu stock the hound will have to sleep outside. Definitely has on odor.
