Why the heck did you start the thread if you were just going to turn around and not care and kill them anyways??? Oh and it is not venomous. Only 4 in Texas are.
Maybe he doesn't want them eating his fish and he needed to know how careful he must be while killing them.
Back in the late 50's and early 60's I spent my summers up on my grandparents small farm in Bowie Co. Caney Creek was covered up with water moccasins and every day I went snake hunting to rid Caney Creek of these evil monsters. I'd kill 15-20 every day trying to wipe them out and never made a dent in their numbers. But their size did get smaller on the average.
I brought this to the attention of John Whirler at the Houston Zoo asking for help. He recommended relocating Diamondback and Broad-Banded water snakes to the area. So in the summer of 1967 I made about ten trips to Lake Texarkana, about 5 miles away, to round up some water snakes. Caught more than 50 water snakes over 4' and a couple hundred smaller ones moving them over to the farm. The next summer I couldn't find a water moccasin. I shot a couple of the water snakes for target practice but it just didn't seem right. Even years later I had to really hunt hard and walk miles along the creek to find just one Water Moccasin.
