The horns aren't wanting to come off right now and its been sitting out in the pasture for a few weeks letting the bugs do their thing. I'm wanting to try the maceration technique but don't know if the horns being in the water will hurt anything. Just wanted to check before I ruined my mount.

I usually put @ 1 QT of water inside a Heavy duty black trash bag ... then put the skull inside ... Leave a little room for the heat to work and seal the bag... Put it outside in the sun but protected from critters. This process usuall takes @ 2-3 weeks ... every once in a while you can grab the end of the horns and pull and they should come off if its ready. Be prepared for some stink...

I have it in a big molasses tub with water over the top of the skull and I got the water from the tank so it had some bacteria already going in it. Guess I will try the horns in a couple days and see if they will slide off. Thanks!Comment
