Pinto Beans: What ya put in 'em and how much?

I think I make a pretty mean pot of pintos but I am always willing to try something new.

I have to put a pot on later today for a 50 person party tomorrow night. I have never intentionally cooked for 50.

How many pounds of beans do you think I need to cook?

What do you guys like to put in your beans?

Salt. Pepper. Garlic. Onions. Ham hock Sometimes a can of rotel. Keep it simple.

At least a half cup dry beans per person. If its a bunch of big ol country boys you might want to go a little more.
Beans don't need much just onion, garlic, salt, pepper, jalepeno, a little Cajun Blaze and some sausage. Regular kielbasa works or andouille.

          salt pork
          garlic
          chili powder (lots)

Keep 'em coming guys. I was figuring about 3/4 cup per person. May be overkill but don't want to run out.

I generally put the following in mine:

            onion
            Jalapeno
            Serrano Pepers
            pork belly
Rotel or fire roasted tomatos (not a lot, just a tad)
            Garlic (minced)
and season with Slap your Mama or Tony's More Spice

Sometimes I through in some sausage for a change.

Try this. We have placed in some competitions with it.

3 LB Package of Pinto Beans
                Bacon
                Onion
                Salt & Pepper
                Chili Powder
                Garlic Powder
                Rotel
                Cilantro

Bacon - I use about three to four slices of bacon cut into pieces about inch and half wide .
One whole onion (cut into small pieces, but not really chopped)
                Salt to taste
                Black pepper to taste
Chili powder to taste , color of water helps with how much to add, also add to taste !
A little sprinkle of garlic power, NOT MUCH do not want to taste like garlic beans .
1 can of Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes
One batch of Cilantro chopped and add when beans are almost cooked.

Put all in together when starting to cook beans, except for the rotel and Cilantro. Beans will take about three to four hours to cook . Bring to a boil

Then reduce heat to low .

Add them when bean are just starting to turn tender . Doctor beans while cooking [ such as adding ingredients to taste while cooking ]

No one way to do this , just start cooking and add to taste

                  jalapenos
                  garlic
                  onions
                  bay leaves
                  non-iodized salt
                  black pepper
                  smoked ham hock

I like to simmer this for about an hour and then put the dry beans in and soak overnight in the refrigerator before cooking.

I like to add brisket, ham, German Sausage, whatever is handy. Definitely chili powder, garlic, a LITTLE cumin, onion, Jalapeño, chopped onion, and
                      Cavenders. No recipe, I
                      Season to taste.

                            This is what I do:

                            1# pinto beans
2 ham hocks or link of your favorite sausage
1 can of rotel (mild medium or hot, your choice)
                            1 can of chicken broth
                            1 onion chopped
                            1 bell pepper chopped
3 table spoons of williams pinto bean seasoning
dump everything into a crock pot, add water til ingregients are covered by about 1" of water.
cook on high for 8 hours or low for 10-12 hours.

I don't know how much more you would have to serve for 50.

Depends on how much time I have in preparation.

                              Ham hock
chopped onion (onion powder can be substituted)
chopped garlic (powder can be substitued)
                              black pepper
little salt (don't need too much provided you get some out of the ham)
                              little red pepper
                              one chopped bell pepper

If I don't have a ham hock, a couple pieces of diced bacon slighty browned in a pan is a decent substitute. For a more healthly alternative, slide the bacon for a little olive oil in the pan.

This and similar recipes also works great for navey beans and black eyed peas.
