This is about what I do--but if my first groups are exceptional, I quit, and, if they are terrible, I quit and wait for a later time or another day.

Depends on how I feel that day...a dozen or two. But the only one I pay attention to is the first one I shoot when I'm cold. If it hits the mark, no adjustment needed.

            I usually shot 150 - 250 three or four times a week.

And it's not just about the practice, I get into it. I just genuinely enjoy shooting my bow. I'll tell myself it will be my last round, but I know I'll go three or four more rounds after that.

I shoot 4-5 days a week and I usually never shoot more than 20-25 arrows unless I'm tuning. But if I shoot 4 or 5 arrows and they are great I don't mind stopping at that.
Only thing you accomplish by continuing to shoot after your muscles are tired is killing your confidence and getting frustrated!

Yeah, I broke my rule last night by shooting around thirty arrow out of my recurve while trying to tune it and probably 20-25 out of my compound while trying to fine tune my sights.

I start by shooting 5-10 at a blank bale in the garage then go to my target in the backyard. I then shoot until I start losing my ability to focus and concentrate - when my mind starts wandering, I quit. Sometimes (if I have a lot on my mind) that happens after arrow #5, sometimes it's after arrow #25. I would say on average I shoot only 15 arrows per session, but I try to shoot every day during the week, and twice a day on weekends.

I like this approach! Do you shoot at the blank bale to focus on form, follow thru, etc.?

Yes. I only started doing this when I switched to trad but I think it is a good thing with any bow. In front of the blank bale I just think about various elements of form - back tension, anchor, release, steady bow arm, etc. then when I go shoot at targets I don't consciously think about any of that - I devote all my mental energy on focusing on "the spot"

My arrows start out touching, yet I wind up telling myself "just one more round", til they get worse and worse and I eventually tire out.

Anyone else OCD like that? It's frustrating, but I was just wondering if its just me.
Stop before you get tired. I shoot a couple of quivers then break shoot another quiver break for a while etc. When August rolls around, 1 arrow aday till hunting season. Just my routine.
