    Noise-baffle sound from 2006 F150 when accelerating?

When I accelerate my F150 it makes a sound similar to when you have a hole in your muffler. It only makes the sound when I accelerate around 40-70mph. For what it's worth the sound seems to be coming from the area of the engine in front of the passenger front seat. Any ideas what it could be?

      Probably your catalytic converters.

It's definitely louder than normal. Just started doing it a few weeks ago.

My 2006 Supercrew does the same thing. I thought the noise was coming from the compressor or an idler pulley or something. I took the belt off and could not find anything wrong with anything. Mine is louder if I'm towing something and accelerate. I don't know what it is but I don't guess it's anything bad cause mine's been doing it for over a year.

I know the older Fords had a sort of exhaust bypass tube that ran high, across the back of the block…I am forgetting the name at the moment. I believe it was part of the emissions/smog garbage. If it is anything like that, you don’t want hot exhaust blasting out of that and against anything important.

Very well could be your exhaust manifold. Mine in my 2004 F150 went bad around 150K miles. If it was your cat, you'd probably be throwing a code.

X2 on the exhaust manifold leak. My 06 f150 does the same. I asked around at some mechanic shops and was told these year model fords are notorious for manifold leaks. They claim its worse if its on the passenger side because its harder to get to. Had two mechanics tell me they wouldn't work on it and the other quoted me $850.00! Needles to say I'm still driving it with the leak. They said Ford designed the faulty manifolds differently and unfortunately they warp causing them to leak.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Another ford defect for this model I guess. The spark plugs that break off and now this.

Have you had tune up lately? We have seen the new spark plugs back out and cause a exhaust leak sound. And we have seen issues with the exhaust manifolds leak, usually a new gasket, studs, and nuts fixes the issue.

Just had new spark plugs put in about about a month ago. Are you saying the new ones may have backed out? It did start a week or so after the new plugs.
