"911" happened... They were at they're rendezvous point with two days worth of food, and what they had harvested in Canada..They had emergency Radios, and made contact. They were told what had happened, but were also told that they could not be reached by plane, and could not tell them when they could be picked up at all....I don't rememeber all of the details, about they're ordeal. But to hear him tell the story,as I remember they were scared to death! Jake said these boys were under the impression WWIII,was underway...They were PRCA cowboys,I know that...Maybe someone on here knows the whole story.
I've done a bunch of trips years ago, nothing terrible ever happened but it can get uncomfortable. The worst one I guess was when the plane was 8 days late picking us up, got pretty tired of goat meat and sliding flat rocks across the ice for something to do.
Had an ice storm blow in one evening with about 80 mph winds, it kept me flat on my back for 3 days in a two man tent.
Rained 2-3 inches a day for a week straight. Streams were so swollen the only way across was to drop a tree across them and crawl on over.
Spent more than a few nights rolled up in a utralight tarp I always carried.

I've heard that a .380 pistol makes great bear medicine. With 1 shot to your friend's knee the bear will concentrate on him, thereby allowing you to escape.

Get in shape, Rain gear, make sure you have a pistol big enough incase you get in trouble with a bear. Dad, brother, BIL, and me have been up twice and see 4 bears the second time and 5, 1 of which stayed with us the whole week, the first trip.

We mailed our gear in totes to the transporter flying us out. The only thing we took on the plane was a back pack, guns, and each check a bigger bag. All big hunting clothing and boots was part of what we mailed. Yalls transporter may not let yall do this. Tents, cooking gear, etc were all mailed 6 weeks prior at the minimum.

Decent pair of binos due to the distance you can see, which also means you should have plenty of time to get in front of them to get a shot. We also took the little packets or can of Gatorade powder so we could mix in our water bottles(big empty orange juice jugs) to drink while hunting.

Don't ever think anything is CLOSE because its never as close as you think. We also bought wolf and wolverine tags due to them being fairly cheap but never seen any. If I think of anything else majorly important Ill let you know.

Definitely watch the weight as noted above. If you go in late Aug early Sept, take mosquito head nets. Water purification tablets or pump are necessary. Take enough extra food for a few days in case the pilot is late in picking you up.

On my last trip we got up on the last morning and packed everything and sat down to wait for the plane. Finally, late in the day a plane landed. We didn't recognize the plane or pilot. He introduced himself and told us he was there to pick us up. Our pilot had crashed that morning - he didn't make it.

This is the only thing I don't like about this hunt. You hear ALL the time of people crashing up there. I guess you just have to hope it's not your time to go.

9 times outta 10 there's some unsafe act such as the pilot letting people take too much weight or flying in weather they were not supposed to. The safe pilots will not take your word for it with your weight they will weigh you and your bags themselves. Some people try to get a good tip instead of just trying to stay alive

Helly Hanson makes some really good affordable rain gear, you may want to get you a pair of stocking foot light waders, we wore them every day over our pants, I found some in the bargain cave at Cabelas for half price, they were regular 200 bucks, well worth it, also get straight Deet for the bugs, they are mean.
