    Finding Arrowheads?

How do you guys know where to look for arrowheads? I've searched the dry gully beds on our ranch in Concan & never found a thing. Should i be digging into the banks?

try the sides of the wash or up on top where the dirt is starting to wash away....

I've never dug. I find a lot of my stuff just walking around. I've never found anything spectacular but I do find a lot of stuff.

You might not be in a place that was well populated.

Try to find areas that look like good places to camp near creeks, not in creek beds.

I have several hundred points and all were found on the top of the ground. On central Tx to Colorado and NM.
We did used to find several good ones in an area where the ground was cut down to make a creek crossing. Some would have been 10' deep had we had to dig for them.
Keep your eyes trained on the ground and good luck

That's where I've always looked, in the creek beds.

You are in one of the best areas in the country. Look up on the banks along the draws. Most of that country has eroded enough that there will be artifacts visible on the surface.

I have always been interested in arrowheads but have never found any or known where to look. Anyone know about Runnels County and if there have been finds out that direction? We have a lease about 10 miles NW of Ballinger and have a creek. Would be nice to find some.

Maybe there are none where you are looking?

Plowed fields with a recent rain will help with the surface finds. The last one I found was in the side of a cow trail that water had run down and it was stuck near the top. I look at all the washes after recent rains and have had luck with that. I will say this, once you find one, you will cuss yourself often cause you are prone to look down instead of up when hunting other things. I have my snake hook that I use to turn over rocks while looking for them. Keeps me from having to kneel down as much.

I find all mine just walking around, we have a few mounds on the ranch find projectiles, pottery, marbles all kinds of things. Also cattle trails I've found them on, might get a power washer and get past a few inches of soil and leaf litter.

Come to think of it, there are few suspicious random mounds around in the brush!
