The few rabbits we shot last week were loaded with bot fly larvae. Then again, doesn't effect the meat. Still wouldnt touch it, at least this time of the year.

The oldest gentlemen said that's how they did it when he was a kid??
They eat a lot of rabbits in South Louisiana where I was born, and I have always been told don't eat rabbits in the summer months.
Now being a Cajun I know my fellow Coonazz's and I will eat just about anything we can catch, so if the old school Cajuns are telling me not to eat rabbit in the summer I think I will follow their advice.
The old fella probably did it that away because they didn't have a refrigerator.....I'm surprised he reached adulthood.....

Truth be told, there are probably lots of little tricks handed down throughout the years like this. Heck, if they didn't get sick then it wasn't that bad. I know they may have iron clad stomachs, but still, if it was that rotten you'd think there'd be some illness involved. Not saying I'd try it, just that there are lots of little tricks that have been handed down over generations. This may be one of them. I for one would be studying it to learn more, but sure as heck wouldn't try it
