    Miter saw for cutting pipe???

Im gonna make a base for my stand and need to cut pipe at an angle. Can I use my miter saw and put a metal cutting blade on it? The pipe is 2 3/8" drill stem. I looked at a regular chop saw but they dont cut at a 35* angle that I need.

What saw did you look at?
My Dewalt cuts from 0 to 45 degrees.

Sorry, I just looked on line and saw that I could adjust it on the clamp that holds the metal in place

We have 3 different brands of chop saws and they all will adjust from 0-45+ degrees.

I never thought about trying to use a mitre saw. Might be okay for a few cuts but not long term.

The regular mitre saws turn too fast and will go through blade fast. I wouldn't do it.

What Draco said, they spin WAY too fast and have the possibility to start slingin red hot carbide teeth at about a jillion miles per hour

I don't think that you can. The metal cutting blade would probably have a different size arbor so that you can't use it for safety reasons. That's how it works for circular saws. Metal cutting blades must turn a a lower RPM.

Makita makes a saw like this specifically for metal. Does a good job.

Yeah and I bet the motor is different too...lots of vibration can occur causing injury I would suspect.

Dont do it.....use a chop saw, port a band, cutting torch, plasma cutter or horizontal band saw. If your going to do much of this the horizontal band saw is the best...I use the heck out of mine.

If you were closer I'd let you borrow my metal cutting circular saw. It's a beast.

I've used a miter saw plenty of times to cut metal. No problems yet.

Thanks guys it looks like i'm gonna head back to Lowes and get a new chop saw. I just didn't realize that it cut at different angles. I needed another reason to buy a new tool.
