Portable Generator Engine Replacement

I have a very good quality Honda 5000 watt generator that needs a new engine.

Local generator repair shop wants more than I am willing to spend on it compared to what a new one would cost.

Looking for a source for a new engine that I can do myself to save the labor cost.

Anyone that can help me determine what I need and locate one?

harbor freight has a few too. Yes they are cheap but i have an 800 watt genny from them that is in its 6th year of service. sounds horriable when it runs but keeps on going.

This is important. Generator motor shafts are not the same as those on standard crate engines. At least that was the case with the Briggs powered Coleman I tried to re-power.
